The best way to get away from the bustling streets of Bangkok is getting up to the city’s rooftop bars. Thanks to a combination of skyscrapers and warm climate all year round, Bangkok is the perfect rooftop city. Whether daytime or night, soaking up the city’s stunning skyline while sipping on a cocktail in the refreshing breeze is one of the best things to do in the city. So if you’re looking for the best rooftop bars in Bangkok, look no further!
    • Dress Code:
Many rooftop bars in Bangkok insist on a special dress code. Men should wear long pants and closed shoes. Women are generally considered to be dressed casual too. Beach clothes like flip flops, shorts and tank tops are usually a no go.
    • Free Admission:
Bangkok’s sky bars are usually without any entrance fee, but of course the drinks are not cheap. Just a few offer happy hour deals, such as the Amara Sky bar
    • Reservations:
You do not need a reservation for the Sky bars in Bangkok. To visit the restaurants of the bars, it is still advisable to reserve a good table.
    • Legal Age:
The age limit at most Bangkok rooftop bars is +20, as the legal drinking age in Bangkok and Thailand is 20. The more high-end the rooftop venue is, the more likely are the chanches you will be asked for ID. As a foreign visitor, not looking to young, most casual bars will probably not ask for ID. During daytime, rooftops with a pool are usually open to all ages, and children can usually visit rooftop bars if accompanied by an adult.
    • Smoking:
Most Bangkok rooftop bars are non-smoking venues. Since 2019, Thailand and Bangkok introduced stricter smoking laws, which does not only prohibit smoking inside public areas, but now also at a 5-metre ‘exclusion zone’ outside public entrances and exits. So while more and more rooftop bars are now non-smoking, some still allow smoking in designated areas. However, note that E-cigarettes and Vaping is banned in Bangkok.
    • Best Time to Visit:
The best time to visit a Bangkok rooftop bar is in the early evening. Most rooftop bars open around 5pm, when the daytime heat starts to settle, and we recommend arriving just about opening hour. This way you can enjoy both a fantastic Bangkok sunset, and hopefully enjoy the rooftop bar without to much of a crowd. Daytime visits to Bangkok rooftop bars is only recommended if there is a rooftop pool.
    • Sky Bar VS Rooftop Bar
We usually make a distinction between a sky bar and rooftop bar, where a sky bar is all indoors and a rooftop bar offers an open-air terrace. However, in Bangkok, an open-air bar on top of a building is often referred to as both sky bar and rooftop bar. So it is hard to tell any difference between a sky bar Bangkok and a rooftop bar Bangkok.
