Labour Day
Labour Day is celebrated on 1 May in many nations around the world, including in Thailand. This holiday has roots in the labour union movement and in the struggle for workers rights internationally. In Thailand it is an opportunity to recognise the contribution of workers to the nation’s economy. Note: Labour Day is observed by all sectors except the Government sector.
There are few labour unions in Thailand. And unfortunately, child labour, poor working conditions, low wages, and other issues are still common. Nonetheless, there are well organised and well attended Labour Day events in Thailand.
Most of these events take place in Bangkok, however, and are becoming more rare and low key over time. Many people just take an off day and stay home to relax. Also, Labour Day is usually only an off day for private workers, not for government employees. Conversely, Royal Ploughing Ceremony is typically taken off by public but not by private employees.Last edited by Topscorer; 08-27-2021, 09:43 AM.
