EU now accepts Thailand Covid-19 Vaccination Certificates

Thailand’s Covid-19 certification is now linked to the EU’s digital certification system, according to Deputy Head of Delegation European Union Giuseppe Busini, who tweeted the announcement.
He wrote that Thailand’s Covid-19 certifications will be accepted in the European Union, while Thailand will recognise the EU Digital Covid Certificate.

The European Commission approved certifications given by Thailand, Montenegro, Taiwan, Tunisia, and Uruguay today. European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders says “this year has been a successful one when it comes to the rollout of the EU Digital Covid Certificate.”Thai citizens can use their passports to travel to EU nations, and EU citizens can use their passports to travel to Thailand.

“Our technology now connects sixty countries and territories across five continents. We’ve witnessed the importance of such credentials for safe travel and the need for them. It will continue to serve in the future, even with Covid-19 versions.”
After receiving two doses of the vaccine, the certification will be valid for 270 days. People who want it to last longer must take a booster dose.

As there is still very little research on how long the booster dose will protect against the virus, there is no information regarding how long it will be extended after the booster dose has been released.

UK to accept vaccination certificates issued via Thailand’s Mor Prom app

The UK will join the EU in accepting Covid-19 vaccination certificates issued via Thailand’s Mor Prom app. The digital certificates, issued by the Department of Disease Control, confirm the holder is fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Such proof is increasingly becoming a pre-requisite for international travel.

According to a Nation Thailand report, Thani Saengrat from the Foreign Ministry has welcomed the UK’s decision, which means both Thais and foreigners who’ve been fully vaccinated in the kingdom can use the Mor Prom certificate to enter the UK. He adds that all travellers to the UK will still need to check the requirements of that country and adhere to UK immigration health measures, including Covid-19 testing before and after arrival.

Last week, the European Union confirmed it would accept Thailand’s Covid-19 vaccination certificate, meaning holders can travel freely to and between all EU member states. The reciprocal arrangement means Thailand will also recognise the EU Digital Covid Certificate.

Foreigners vaccinated in Thailand can apply for a digital vaccine passport for free until March 31

Digital vaccine passports through Thailand’s Public Health Ministry are being issued for free until March 31. Both Thai nationals and foreign residents who were inculcated in Thailand can register for the e-Vaccine Passport on the Mor Phrom application.

A 13-digit number is needed to register on Mor Phrom. For Thais, this is their Thai ID number. Foreigners who have been inoculated in Thailand receive this number after their second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. The Thai PR department says the number for expats will start with “60.”

Those who have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine and are interested in an e-Vaccine Passport can download the Mor Prom application, which is available for both iOS and Android. Then, go to “International Certificate” and request an e-Vaccine certificate. A QR Code will be ready within three working days.

ASEAN Nations agree on mutual recognition of Covid-19 Vaccination Certificates

The Malaysian Health Ministry has confirmed that ASEAN nations will recognise each other’s Covid-19 vaccination certificates, in a bid to facilitate cross-border travel. Malaysia’s Deputy Health Minister, Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, says the agreement was reached at a meeting of ASEAN health ministers in Bali at the weekend.

According to an Asia News Network report, he says ASEAN members have agreed to recognise each other’s Covid-19 vaccination certificates, enabling safe and smooth cross-border travel.

“The recognition will be carried out with the ASEAN universal verification mechanism or other mechanisms, which were developed based on the World Health Organisation’s technical specification. This is to ease Covid-19 vaccination certificate verification issued by each ASEAN country.”
Malaysia has praised Indonesia for taking the lead in developing the ASEAN universal verification mechanism, which will also support those member states who have yet to develop a verification system for Covid-19 vaccination.

“It is important to ease the re-opening of borders and expedite the recovery process of ASEAN from Covid-19.”
Malaysia is also backing the ASEAN Centre for Public Health Emergencies and Emerging Diseases, which aims to strengthen the region’s capacity in preventing, detecting, and responding to public health emergencies.
The Malaysian health minister adds that his country will use the ASEAN healthcare platform to increase capacity in genome sequencing and for the exchange of information with member states.

“It is hoped that this initiative will steer ASEAN in the recovery from Covid-19.”
