Red Mountain Golf Club | Phuket


Most visitors to Thailand rave about this golf course because it is so visually exciting. It is difficult to believe that they managed to carve out a golf course in amongst the red sandstone hills that lend the course its name and the numerous lakes left behind from the tin mining operations. It was the first golf course designed by John Morrow and he has done a wonderful job. He encountered serious design issue towards the end of the back nine and was forced to build a slightly mickey-mouse hole for the 17 which is a par 3 with a 50 meter drop from tee to green – it’s a fun hole but not a real golf hole. The course is quite challenging for higher handicappers with long carries off some tee boxes and quite a few very narrow landing areas. The course is usually in immaculate condition and rarely very busy as many are put off by the high cost. The course has never hosted a major professional golf event and is unlikely to ever do so because it is impossible to walk with quite long uphill stretches between holes. A nice modern clubhouse in an elevated position overlooking the 18 green, good practice facilities and well-trained caddies.

Loch Palm Golf Club | Phuket





































The Loch Palm golf course sits in central Phuket just next door to the Red Mountain golf course. This makes it very easy to get to no matter where you’re staying in Phuket, and the beach is just 20 minutes away when you’re done with your round. The course runs over 6,470 yards with 18 holes and is rated as a par 72 golf course. It’s very popular with the local golfers and sits amongst jungle-covered mountainsides with amazing views across the island but despite this, somehow retains a parkland-style to it, plus it’s beautifully maintained. It’s a pleasant golf course for amateurs to play on but it doesn’t come without its challenges and like most Phuket golf courses, there is a lot of water for you to contend with. Almost every hole on the front 9 has a large lake that is featured, some of the holes even have water crossing the fairways, so be careful with your drives. There is quite a lot of elevation change too and watch out for the green on the par 3 14th, it’s surrounded by water on 3 sides and you have to tee off from an elevated position. Another great thing about this golf course is that you can walk it, golf carts are optional unlike the other golf courses in Phuket which are a tad demanding. You’re best off playing this golf course during the week if you can as it gets very busy on weekends and rounds can become very slow. Golf package rates are applicable for transfers from Patong, Kamala, Laguna, Karon & Kata. Transfers from other areas may be subject to additional charges.

The Phuket Country Club | Phuket





































Phuket Country Club was established in 1989 and has the honour of the being the first golf course built on the island of Phuket. Conveniently located midway between Phuket Town and Patong Beach it is easily accessible from all the main beach resorts. The course provides a fun and friendly 18 holes set in a valley that meanders through hills and limestone cliffs traversing 3 distinct environment, with six holes in undulating hills, six holes on the level and six through landscape forest. Phuket Country Club is regular host of national tournaments and will provide a challenging, but not intimidating round of golf for the high handicappers who often have the best rounds of their lives. Accurate shots are required although any wayward shots are not severely penalised as the rough is very light. Water comes into play more on the back nine starting at the 557 yard par 5 10th. This is one of the most unusual holes you will find anywhere. A dog-leg right that snakes around an enormous lake yet can be reached in one! To achieve it you must aim 90 degrees right from the tee and be able to carry 240 yards over the water. The clubhouse has good facilities including locker rooms with sauna for ladies and men, Pro shop, driving range, putting green, tennis courts, and a golf academy. The poolside restaurant has panoramic views over the golf serving excellent Japanese, local Thai and western cuisine and is the perfect place to relax after your round. The course remains a firm favourite amongst locals and regular visitors to Phuket. Laguna Golf | Phuket





























Laguna Golf Phuket (formerly Laguna Phuket Golf Club) is located on the west coast of Phuket just 25 minutes from Phuket Airport and can be easily reached from virtually all points on the island.
