Black Mountain Golf Club | Hua Hin
Click image for larger version Name:	Black-Mountain-Golf.jpg Views:	2 Size:	209.7 KB ID:	1478

This is probably the most high profile golf course in Thailand as it has hosted numerous professional events including the Royal Trophy and more recently the Thailand Classic which is an Asian Tour and European Tour co-sanctioned event attracting some of the biggest names in golf. The course is beautifully presented and is immaculate in every respect and they are continually tinkering with the course to make it better. Although the course is highly manicured, it still retains a very natural feel as they have retained many of the original trees and planted many more. They have also cleverly incorporated the natural streams that run through the property into the design. They are currently building another nine holes and their intention is to build the best nine holes in Thailand and we have no doubt that they will achieve their aim. They have the best caddies and a beautiful clubhouse serving excellent food and the best stocked pro-shop we have ever seen. Other facilities include a spa and fine dining restaurant.
    • Location: Just off Hua Hin bypass 30 minutes from Hua Hin
    • Birdies: Excellent clubhouse facilities, superb service
    • Bogeys: Gets very crowded in high season, poor club hire selection
    • Favorite Hole: The 2nd hole on Mountain Course. Downhill par-3 to island green.

Banyan Golf Club opened in 2008 and was designed by well-known Thai golf course designer Pirapon Namatra. The course has been built on the site of a former pineapple plantation very close to the centre of Hua Hin with great views towards the mountains of Burma and occasional glimpses of the Gulf of Thailand. The course has been set up to appeal to golfers of all standards with a choice of six tee boxes. The Zoysia grassed fairways are usually in immaculate condition and the TifEagle Bermudagrass used on the greens means that they run fast and true. The contemporary Thai-style clubhouse features luxurious changing rooms and with some accommodation. The course has won numerous awards including recognition by Asian Golf Monthly and also featured in the Rolex list of the Top 1000 golf courses in the World. The carts which are optional are fitted with the latest GPS positioning system which helps to take the guesswork out of shot selection.
    • Location: 20 minutes from centre of Hua Hin
    • Birdies: Excellent caddies, good practice facilities, GPS in golf carts, and a pub to watch the sunset over a cold beer.
    • Bogeys: The one-player, one cart policy.
    • Favorite hole: The signature par-3 15th. Tee off from an elevated tee box to a narrow green 140 yards below.

Royal Hua Hin Golf Course | Hua Hin
Click image for larger version Name:	Royal-Golf.jpg Views:	1 Size:	123.3 KB ID:	1514

Royal Hua Hin is the oldest 18-hole international standard course in Thailand and is only 5 minutes from downtown Hua Hin. The golf course was commissioned in 1924 to accommodate the interests of the British railway workers and Thai aristocracy living in the area. Royal Hua Hin sits right next to the town's railway station. The course's designer was a Scottish railroad engineer. The Hua Hin golf course is constructed on natural terrain and set between some spectacular rocky hills and is a traditional older British golf course design. Excellent views of the Gulf of Thailand and the city center are possible from several of the holes. A major renovation in the 1980s brought this course up to international standards, despite its age. Mature tree lined fairways are now abundant making for many shaded lies.

However, don’t think that a visit to Thailand's oldest golf course will be a trip down memory lane. Every golfer's game will be tested here, with several tight tree-lined fairways, many nicely doglegging holes and relatively small circular greens to hit, greens which are typically elevated. The bunkering is relatively modest, and the course condition might not be as manicured as some in the Hua Hin region, but Royal Hua Hin has some charming and enjoyable features in its treasure chest.

Monkey business is very likely at the uphill par-4 13th. Alongside this fairway small macaque monkeys enjoy the bordering vegetation; they may also take a shine to the odd golf ball or two. Small owls watch over on proceedings just beyond the green of the par-4 7th. At the signature par-3 14th and the par-5 3rd, temples clinging to the sides of tree-clad hills are evident. While one portion of the course plays under a beautiful tree-clad rocky ridge, the other provides occasional glimpses of the ocean from the two slightly more elevated sections of the course. Actual playing conditions vary through the year from being very muddy in the rainy period to hard when the course is at its peak in the winter months. Greenskeeping is more consistent year round. English of the service staff is adequate as quite many foreigners like to play Royal Hua Hin.

Snack kiosks are on site every three holes, affording very comfortable rounds for all golfers. A remodeled clubhouse makes for a nice 19th hole and to reflect on the golfers who have passed through the doors during the past century that Royal Hua Hin has been around. If nothing else for historical value and convenience of location, Royal Hua Hin is a course that should be played at least once by every golf traveler to Hua Hin.

Seapine Golf Course | Hua Hin
Click image for larger version Name:	Sea-Pines-Golf-Course.jpg Views:	2 Size:	112.3 KB ID:	1515

Sea Pines Golf Course is the newest golf course in Hua Hin and also the closest to sea, making for some spectacular ocean views. The links-style 7,305 yards, 18-hole course has 12 holes adjacent to the main road with another six holes, separated by a train line, running close to the beautiful Gulf of Thailand. Opened in 2010, the golf course has quickly become popular with locals and tourists alike. The cooling ocean breeze can be a blessing on hot days but a curse when it picks up on the holes closer to the sea, turning the relatively easy play into some challenging game. The course's namesake pine trees are dotted along the edge of the beach and beyond them is nothing but sand, clean, warm water and the distant islands in the Gulf of Thailand. The course is quite flat but with plenty of water to keep you on your toes, so be prepared to lose a ball or two. The new greens run slow but true, and the last three holes are among the most memorable in Hua Hin. This municipal golf course is designed and operated by the Royal Thai Army as a retreat for soldiers, veterans and their families. Sea Pines Golf Course is excellent value for money, but visitors must take note that army officers and their guests have priority for starting times, so if you're on a tight schedule its advisable to check how busy it is ahead of time.
